Edenscapes did another excellent job this year getting our winter displays planted despite some very frigid conditions! Sourcing all our materials took patience, especially given that we are quite particular in using greenery that stays green longer in our changeable temperatures! We are asking for your help once again: should you see anybody remove anything from the winter displays, please let us know right away by emailing: [email protected]. Once in place, no adjustments to the planters are necessary! Record license plates and/or take pictures of offenders if possible!

As we are all spending a bit more time inside, this is a wonderful time to start planning your garden! Are you planning to replace some of your perennials or are your perennials thriving to the point where they need to be split? Our ELM coordinator, Shari Pitka, would be happy to pick up those extra perennials for distribution in our Edgemont parks! Please contact Shari anytime at [email protected] to arrange for pickup of any plant donations around the end of May!

Are you new to Edgemont or are you looking for inspiration? There is so much information available on the website of the City of Calgary including valuable information on plants, shrubs and trees that thrive in dry conditions. There are YouTube videos as well on many topics related to gardening in Calgary. In addition, city gardening guides are available in several languages! Are you in the market for a rain barrel this year at an affordable price? Use the link below and check the city website regularly from now on for options to buy a rain barrel through the city’s Green Calgary program early in the spring: https://www.calgary.ca/water/programs/rainbarrel.html. If you are interested in free compost from the Green Cart program, you will need to make an appointment. Bookings typically start in April for pick up beginning the middle of April until the end of May. To book you appointment use the following link: https://www.calgary.ca/waste/residential/green-cart-compost-giveaway.html.

Pick up of free compost takes places at the Spyhill and Shepard landfill locations. Residents must bring their own containers, shovels, and other supplies.

Free mulch, however, is available year-round at the East Calgary landfill location. Appointments are not required, just bring your own container and other supplies.

Any comments or concerns, please contact us at [email protected].
