Edgemont’s ELM Report for September

Well, that was quite the month of July this year with a destructive thunderstorm and large hail on July 13! After several years of concerns about droughts and water restrictions, mother nature sure made up for past performances this summer. It is interesting, however, to see which plants thrive on all that extra moisture. It has been a wonderful year to grow celery for instance! Who would have thought.

With respect to our Naturalization Pilot Project near the Edgemont Community Centre, the first session of weed pulling on May 29 was an enormous success. Many thanks to our volunteers for helping with this project. The next weed pulling session will take place on October 15, starting at 10:00 am. The City will once again provide materials and staff to help volunteers with the weed pulling process. If you have a few hours to contribute on October 15, please contact our volunteer coordinator at: [email protected].

Foothills Landscaping has been working hard in our community to carry out some outstanding and new projects. On Edenwold Drive, the lilacs were trimmed, and a few gaps were filled in with new lilacs. Also, gravel was used to level out some of the planters, replacing the original concrete slabs. Hopefully, this will be an easier way to keep them level! The park on Edgebrook Drive is looking very attractive now that roses have been planted to grow up the new trellises in years to come. Take a drive along Edgebrook Boulevard to have a look at the revamped park off Edgebrook Boulevard and Edgeridge View NW, near the parking lot (across from the Edgemont wetlands). Pictures of the above parks are included with this article.

ELM projects make our community look extremely attractive and beautiful year-round with gorgeous, bright flowers in parks and planters in the summer while brightening the bleak winter days with amazing and colourful winter displays. If you share our opinion and would like to see a continuation of the ELM program, please come and vote to support the ELM program at the Reaffirmation Vote this fall. The exact date will be announced in our next newsletter. We are counting on your support! Did you know that supporting the program through the special tax levy costs each property owner less than a coffee a week?
