Can you believe it’s May already? Tulips. Daffodils. Irises. The yards are starting to look colourful and we’re sitting on our hands waiting for a string of warm weather to get the bedding plants out. Although it was a relatively mild winter, it still seemed long.

I’d like to remind people that ECA is hosting its annual Mother’s Day Tea at the centre on May 11; that’s the Saturday immediately before Mother’s Day. This year’s theme is Petals and Posies so dress in your best garden party attire. It’s fun for all and the treats provided by Friends, our neighbourhood café, should be delicious. Ticket prices for members are $25 per adult and $20 per child. Register at https://edgemont.getcommunal.com/parent_programs. We have sold out every year so don’t delay.

May 15 is the date of our Annual General Meeting. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. Details and supporting documents will be posted on the ECA website. There are several board positions open. If you have an interest in serving the community by volunteering on our board, reach out to Rick at [email protected] for the nomination papers. To be a board member, you must be an ECA member. Memberships are available online and will also be sold the evening of the AGM. Members can fully participate in the meeting if their membership dues are paid in full before the meeting is called to order.

Only a few weeks to go until the kids are out of school and we’re looking for ways to keep them occupied. Start now! Many programs are already taking registrations and they sell out fast. If soccer is on the list, Northside Soccer is a program to investigate. There’s a link on the ECA website to the program details. If you are looking for drama and opportunities to investigate a galaxy far, far away, check out Mr. D’s Awesome Summer Camps! Again, go to the ECA website to get more information and a registration link.

In June we welcome both the Farm Stand and the Food Trucks to the community centre parking lot. They will be setting up on the third Thursday every month starting in June and running through the fall. The farm stand frequently sells out and the Food Trucks continue to be popular. My favourite … Bear Balls!

Toward the end of June, Stampede is on the minds of many, including us! On June 22, we will be hosting a Stampede breakfast, the Nordic Rodeo, and the Citizenship Ceremony. There is no charge to attend but you must register so we can estimate how many pancakes to have on hand. The Nordic Rodeo has been a crowd-pleaser in past years with opportunities to try ski jumping among other activities. If we are lucky this year, we may be able to set up a luge course. The Citizenship Ceremony officially welcomes new Canadians to our country. ECA hasn’t hosted one for some time, and we’re thrilled to have the chance once again.

I hope to see you out and about in this great place we call home!

Pamela Wilson

President
