Greetings, readers, and for those celebrating or observing Chinese New Year this month, on behalf of the Board of Directors for the HVCA, we wish that your year is filled with happiness and prosperity!
This month’s update will be shorter than usual. The initial start to January was a bit tricky, with cold weather, a delayed start to school, and adjustments to our hockey program and planned events. At the time of preparing the article, it appears the weather will be warming up to more seasonable temperatures. We hope that, by the time you read this, January’s weather improved, and you have been able to enjoy your favorite winter activities with family and friends.
In February, you should expect to receive more information about two major projects this year: our community art program (“Inspire our Future”) and activities related to replacing our rink boards. We have also begun posting our Emergency Preparedness Information on our Facebook and web pages. This series of articles is intended to help our residents and neighbours do their part to be prepared in case of emergencies.
February will also have more information available to you about our rescheduled Winterfest (Springfest?) and initial planning for the Community Clean-up. At the end of February (Saturday, the 26), the HVCA is hosting a drive-through (or walk-up) bottle drive to help raise funds for our ongoing playground and park space revitalization work.
On the topic of fundraising, our major 2022 event will be a casino in June. We plan to supplement that with a few new tools available to us this year, and we expect to provide more information this month.
You may have received your membership renewal notice already. Our system means that members have an anniversary date for their membership, rather than an annual expiry of December 31. This should make it easier for new members to join throughout the year to take advantage of the programs that interest them and that best fit their schedules. We are looking at adding more on-line functionality for members that connects to our events and programs directly and expect to roll that out over the year.
A short update for a short month. Until March, stay safe, healthy, and be ready to take those opportunities that bring happiness and joy to you, to your friends and families, and to your neighbours in the community.
