As always, for more information about the events below, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Anne, at [email protected] or you can contact our Hall Manager, Abi, by phone at 403-276-6969 (leave a message) or by email at [email protected]. However, Abi is only at our hall on Wednesdays. Please note, events below are listed in chronological order, with ongoing events first. There are also usually additional details about our Events on our website at HighlandParkCommunity.ca – just mouse over to the Programs menu at the top and choose Events on the sub-menu. If you haven’t done so already, you can also sign up for our email list and follow HPCA on our social media sites there too.

Last Chance for New Outdoor Rink Volunteers!

March will likely be the last month we’ll have ice on our outdoor rink, so if you are interested in joining our crew of dedicated rink volunteers to learn how they do such an amazing job, now’s the time! Come out to learn how they use a homemade “zamboni” for smooth ice and pick up their tricks of the trade for making a great rink for our community. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Seniors’ Luncheon

Saturday, March 8. We’re excited to introduce you to our new Seniors’ Luncheon Coordinator, Vanessa Gillard, who has a wealth of community organizing experience and some great ideas for this program. For the relaunch of this program, we’ll be shifting the Luncheon to Saturdays which will make things easier for our volunteers. So, our next Luncheon is planned for Saturday March 8, with additional future Saturdays, mostly every month to fit in around already booked rental dates in our hall usage calendar. If you want to be added to our contact list for this event as a Senior, or as a volunteer, or if you have any questions, please contact Vanessa at [email protected].

Good Food Box

Monday, March 17 is the next order date, with pick-up, as always, on the Thursday ten days later. If you want to order, you must confirm with our Good Food Box Lead Volunteer, Ellen, at [email protected], by the order date and advise how many and what size of box(es) you want to order. If it is your first time ordering, Ellen will need additional information from you. You can pay for yours via e-transfer to HPCA’s Volunteer Coordinator, Anne Naumann, by email to [email protected] no later than 4:30 pm on the order date, and she will tally all payments and transfer payments to the Calgary Community Kitchen, or you can pay cash on the order date at the hall in person between 6:00 and 7:00 pm.

Earth Day Litter Cleanup

Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at our hall. Come by at 10:00 am with your family and neighbours to pick up supplies and fan out in groups to safely pick up litter in areas around our community. Then, when you come back to drop off your litter bags and unused supplies, you can enjoy some light refreshments and have a chance to chat with your neighbours. Let’s all “pitch in” to clean up Highland Park.

Community Market

Saturday, May 31 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at HPCA hall and grounds. This is the latest in our series of community artisan markets, featuring handmade items by local artisans. There should be more details about this market elsewhere in this newsletter. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success, so please sign up here: https://signup.com/go/TGqCYbJ.

Neighbour Day

Saturday, June 21 is Calgary’s 12th Annual Neighbour Day, a day to celebrate Calgary’s “neighbourliness” and community spirit that was on full display after the 2013 floods. While HPCA isn’t planning anything formal for this date, why don’t you set up a block party to meet more of your neighbours? The City of Calgary’s website (Calgary.ca/neighbour-day) has a free guide for planning a block party, and other resources.

Stampede BBQ and Music in the Park

Wednesday, July 9 will be HPCA’s annual Stampede BBQ and Music in the Park. We’ll be recruiting volunteers to help with this event soon. Mark your calendars!
