April is the month of promise and renewal. The promise of warmer weather; the promise of the new season. It is the month that we seriously begin thinking about all of the new plants that we will be putting in the yard next month and arranging contractors and tradespeople to do all of the projects that need to be done around our homes. Making decisions about whether or not we should re-stain the deck this year or do we need to redo the shingles, should we remove that tree or shrub? What should we put in its place? We begin doing all of the projects that our climate only lets us contemplate doing in the milder weather.
One item that I have recently begun thinking about is replacing our front walkway. When we first moved into our house, we redid the cement blocks with pavers. We were young and foolish and thought how hard can this be – do a little digging and some leveling, add some gravel and sand, do some tamping, and place the pavers. Really not that hard – right? You may have heard that there are some things that you should not do with your spouse, or you might begin thinking about a divorce – for us it was laying pavers – we decided that instead of going down that “path” we would use a lifeline and “call a friend”.
I did learn a lot from that experience –
We will be calling a contractor to do the new pathway!
Since then, I have also learnt that there is more than one thing you should not do with your spouse – wallpapering! But that is another story.
Remember to be kind and love one another!
Happy Easter!
