Nolan Sage Hill’s President’s Message for November

In October, we participated in a federal government roundtable discussion where we aired our concerns regarding parliament seat disbursements, senate structure, appointments to the Supreme Court of Canada, and fair representation in confederation. Unfortunately, the in-person event was cancelled last minute, so our entry had to be done by written submission.

Our Community Garden is making some progressive steps, we are working with two large donors who may provide extensive groundwork and raised planters to us. An on-site meeting is scheduled next week, and we will report any progress once made.

Unfortunately, the board felt we do not have the capacity to host a Halloween event. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, our board has been together for many years and most of our directors are feeling the volunteer burnout. In addition to that, we have not received any responses to our ad in last month’s newsletter seeking more board volunteers. I do hope in a community of over 8,200 residents there are three to four homes willing to put their name forward to help improve daily life for all Sage Hillians through social events, sports, and community advocacy.

Our next event is the 5th Annual Christmas Light Display Contest. This is a members only contest and memberships can be purchased at https://www.sagehillyyc.com/register/. Once you are a member, you can email [email protected] with your name and address indicating your desire to enter your home in the Christmas light contest and judges will make their way to your home as outlined on the event details.

Our Community Resource Police Officer, Cst. Bruce Graham has asked we share a flyer regarding “the grandparent scam” which has targeted some Calgarian seniors recently. Please see flyer for additional details.

As Remembrance Day is this month, if anyone is looking for an event to attend, The Military Museum, Memorial Drive, or Heritage Park have excellent annual ceremonies and are very accessible to all.

Our next community association meeting is Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 pm at Symons Valley Ranch, as well as virtually on Microsoft Teams.
