North Haven’s June Entertainment Report

June always marks the end of our event year as we take a break for summer. In June, we also hold our Annual General Meeting and elect a new Board of Directors. This year, for the first time in 12 years, I will not stand for election to a Board position (but I will remain in North Haven). The very capable Theresa Constantin has offered to take on Entertainment and I wish her all the best in the coming election.

Since I don’t have any June events to tell you about, I want to take this opportunity to look back at some of the great events North Haven has hosted. We started out small with some dances and stuff, but the last few years have seen increasing attendance at all our family events! The Spring Carnival, Pancake Breakfast, and our Halloween Family Dance have become so popular that tickets often sell out in a matter of hours. All summer long, many look forward to Bike Haven. And even though plagued with some unpleasant weather at times, this event has strong attendance.

We offer events for other demographics too – like Brew Haven, our very popular craft beer festival, and the annual Garage Sale, which is so much more than a garage sale. It really gives people an opportunity to see their neighbours and chat a while. We have also had adult comedy events; these are also well received, as who doesn’t like to laugh now and then?

In the last 5 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed being the Entertainment Director on this board. I love bringing people together; I love seeing the familiar faces showing up at events, and then seeing those same people around the community. It is time for me to do something else for a while, but I’ll still be around the community and coming to events!

In this time of being home so much, I appreciate the value of our strong community even more. I hope to see lots of people outside through the summer and look forward to getting back to our regular events as soon as possible!
