Summer is here! Hope you are enjoying the sunshine and time outdoors.
We have exciting news to share! The first is the community rink. We received a $165,000 grant from Parks Foundation Calgary in June. Earlier this year we received $125,000 from the province. This brings our total to $290,000 for the rink replacement. We also have received a grant from The Calgary Foundation of $10,000 and money from our GoFundMe. This money will be dedicated to the Parkdale Community Hub. We’ve almost achieved our funding goal.
The second initiative to share is that we are partnering with Mosaic Montessori Academy. Programming for 2- to 6-year-olds will begin January 2020 at the Parkdale Community Centre. We are excited about this new partnership as it will provide a community service many Parkdale residents have been interested in having while helping to stabilize the PCA’s revenue stream.
The community garden is in full bloom. I am amazed by the commitment of our gardeners and the beautiful space that is created for all of Parkdale to enjoy. Fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers are growing for the community to harvest. This is all organized by our Garden Committee.
Mark your calendars for October 19. The next Community Meeting will be held in conjunction with the Harvest Dinner. I look forward to seeing you there to talk about the community rink and planning and development in Parkdale.
Before I close, I want to thank Angus, Jason, and Katherine for their leadership in providing a great soccer program for our youth. 200 youth were engaged in our community program, plus many parents who coached and managed the teams. Thank you for organizing a great program for our community. I also want to thank Tammy and the Events Committee for organizing two great events this summer – Family Day and the Stampede Breakfast. Both events keep getting better each year—this year was definitely the best yet.
Thank you to everyone for supporting all of our community programs and events.
