President Message
April Showers…
April showers have a new meaning when we think about the ongoing need to conserve water as we will be experiencing more restrictions this spring as the City works to remediate the necessary infrastructure to keep our water supply steady and safe for the years to come. It is a good time to start planning how you will do your gardening – flowers, vegetables, shrubs, and all else that comes with our narrow window of opportunity for growing. Research suggests that we have about 115 frost free days – only a third of the year. Which means planning is important about when to plant and what can be harvested before the frost returns. There are good resources available to help at Almanac.com or FarmTilling.com. Make the most of what we have available!
RCA Website
Our staff has been working hard and have launched an improved website that will help drive interest in developing and attending programs and increase stie traffic to continue the upward trend in our rentals.
Bylaw Refresh
Sadly, the Bylaw refresh that we as a community voted on to approve at the AGM have hit a snag. Due to an unfortunate, simple word misplacement, we were not successful in having them approved with Corporate Registries. The board will be discussing the next steps to get these in place before our AGM in November. It will be great to have more opportunities to serve on the board as the community grows.
Reminders – Some we have dates for and some please watch our Facebook and website for dates.
Jane’s Walk – May 2 starting at 1:00 pm at the Community Hall. As mentioned in last month’s Roundup, Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by urbanist and writer Jane Jacobs. On the first weekend of May every year, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. This event encourages people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours. Do have some tidbits of Ranchlands history? Know some interesting facts? Like to walk with your neighbours and others visiting Ranchlands? We would love to have you go through the neighbourhood with us.
Community Cleanup – To be confirmed (anticipating late May/early June)
Community Garage Sale – June 6
Neighbour Day – June 20
