We Celebrated Neighbour Day Indoors After a Power Failure

Neighbour Day this year certainly had everyone a bit on edge. The forecast was eerily reminiscent of the same day in 2013 when Calgary experienced our devasting flood. It was out of the flood and the response of neighbours to help one another that Neighbour Day was established as an annual event, the third Saturday in June. As the day came closer, our staff and board members looked at ways to be able to make good on the investments we had made and host our planned event. We did have to cancel the petting zoo (that will come again at another event), a band and a bagpiper! But… we did celebrate with those who weathered the weather, playing games, winning prizes from the wheel, enjoying gourmet popcorn and cotton candy. We are grateful for the volunteers from the RCA board members and their families, along with the volunteers from IANWC – the Islamic Centre located across the street from our hall. 15 more people were present to help with the yard games and general support.

Summer Walks Around the Neighbourhood

As the summer moves along, it is nice to see the beautiful trees and so much green space filling our neighbourhood. I encourage walking around and enjoying Ranchlands. Whenever I am out, it is nice to see so many others walking dogs or just walking. I enjoy the smiles and greetings. There are many interesting and creative ways that Ranchlanders keep their yards and homes bright and cheery. If you have an idea that you would like to share, we would love to have articles and pictures to share in the Roundup.

Fences!

Fences are what we see as we enter the neighbourhood. Many neighbourhoods that are hitting the 40+ year mark are seeing fences become weathered and even unsafe. We are looking for people to join us in reviewing the option of mural paintings as you enter Ranchlands off John Laurie Blvd via Ranchlands Blvd.

Hall Rentals

Our rental revenue continues to be what supports the operation and maintenance of our Hall. Consider this for gatherings you may have for your families and friends. If there are specific amenities you think would improve the appeal to rent, we would like to hear about it, as we are preparing our budget for the upcoming year, to be approved at our AGM in November (date to be set soon).
