President’s Report
Howdy Rosemontians!
We are hosting our annual Pub Night on April 18! For the low cost of $20, you get a few free drinks (beer, wine, non-alcoholic choices), a smattering of pub food, games, and hanging out with great neighbours. Whether you have been here for 50 years or 50 days, come out and enjoy! All Rosemontians are welcome! RSVP your seat at RosemontYYC.com/PubNight. Without RSVP’ing, we may not have enough food, so book your space today!
This year was definitely a challenging one for managing the ice. Between water restrictions, warm weather, and large dumps of snow, it made for a tough go. But even though there were a limited number of skating days, the Ice Guys did a terrific job of making the ice rinks usable and great for our shinny program and the community at large. Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who volunteered night after night to make the best outdoor ice in the city.
You may have seen news articles and letters in the mail about the reversal of blanket rezoning. During our conversations with our Councillor, DJ Kelly, we have reiterated what we heard from residents during the original rezoning discussion in spring 2024. Namely that Rosemont is in favour of smart, thoughtful densification through the use of robust Local Area Plans rather than blanket rezoning. Concerns include parking considerations, genuine ability to deliver affordable housing, and impact on aging infrastructure. We also emphasized our concerns about contextual implementation (i.e. setbacks, mid-block developments) and the general development process. Due to the tight timelines on this topic, we are not planning to schedule any further community-wide engagements regarding it, but we encourage you to contact our Councillor with your feedback. If you have any other questions, please contact [email protected].
The next time you are in the hall, you may notice a new fire alarm system that we finished installing early this year. This is to help improve safety for renters, as well as enable additional licensing for childcare services. Thank you to the Government of Alberta for their contribution.
If you are interested in helping with your community association, we always welcome new ideas and folks. If you have questions about what is involved, please reach out to [email protected]. We are only as strong as the volunteers who dedicate a few hours a month to keep the community association strong and healthy. Whatever your skillset, we encourage you to reach out to learn more about how your skills and passions can help make the community a better place to live.
As always, keep looking after family, your neighbours and yourselves.
Matthew
