The Butterflyway Project is an initiative that aims to create networks of pollinator-friendly habitats throughout Canada to support the dwindling populations of bees and butterflies. Launched in 2017 by the David Suzuki Foundation, this citizen-led movement encourages individuals and communities to transform yards, parks, school grounds, and other spaces into pollinator-friendly gardens.
We are excited to be a part of this movement in West Hillhurst. The Green Community is encouraging all neighbours to consider planting native plants in their own yards, or on their decks and balconies this spring to create our own “West Hillhurst Butterflyway”
The goal is to get 12 pollinator gardens created in our community.
For planting guides, an “I’m Planting a Butterflyway” sign for your garden, or more info, email us at [email protected].
If you’d like to learn more about what you can do for the environment or be a part of projects in West Hillhurst targeting climate change and other environmental issues, join the WHCA Green Community! We meet virtually on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:45 pm on Zoom.
