Hello Neighbours,
This month I am so excited to announce that the Acadia Community Association now has an Instagram account. We have volunteers curating the perfect posts of things they see, hear, and know about our wonderful community! If you have never heard of Instagram, it is a social media app that tells stories through pictures. You can download it to smartphones, tablets, or even view it on a computer. We are easy to find, just search @acadiatoday and hit that follow button. If you have great photos with stories you’d like to share, email them over to [email protected], and we will be sure to get them in the mix. We would love to announce all the great things Acadians are doing and seeing in the neighbourhood.
Up next, a reminder that if you haven’t tried out Crokicurl at the Acadia Recreation Complex yet, do check it out. It’s super easy and has been getting a lot of play lately. Crokicurl is a hybrid of the wooden board game Crokinole and Curling. It sure is a great way to have fun together, whether you have top-notch curling skills or just want to try a new ice sport. You can view the rules and ‘how to play’ on our website. They are also posted at the rink site. It’s a first-come, first-serve system. We just ask that if people are waiting to play, you keep your game to 30 minutes.
Within weeks of the newsletter arriving on your doorstep, we will have our inaugural Wine-O-Dino event online on March 20. There are minimal tickets, and I encourage you to sign up for one right away if you are interested. How did we come up with this event you might ask? Well, a few years ago, after our first Brewfest, we polled attendants about their experience and potential other offerings they might be interested in. We heard loud and clear that a wine event would be highly appreciated. I don’t entirely remember how the idea of a dino got in the mix, but I do remember the excitement on our small informal planning committee’s faces while we were sitting in the ARC lounge trying to figure out a rough draft plan for the whole thing. Lives got busy, a year went by, and then the pandemic shattered our hopes of an in-person event last year. We didn’t want to wait any longer and thought everyone could highly enjoy this as an online event if we planned it right. Fingers crossed, I think we have, and you might just walk away with more dinosaur and wine knowledge than you had before!
Lastly, due to COVID, we did make the difficult choice to pull the curling ice early. I know this is heavy on those hearts who eat, breathe, and live their beloved winter sport. Unfortunately, with the restrictions and the cancellation of nearly all curling tournaments, it was ultimately the right thing to do. I know there are so many active curlers who frequent the ARC, and we know you will be back next season, more enthusiastic, and stronger than ever. While not nearly the same, I am excited to let you all know that pickleball has returned to Acadia, and I’d encourage you to give that a try during this extended off-season. It’s happening indoors at the ARC and while there isn’t an official booking system yet, just give the front desk a call to see if it’s available (subject to provincial restrictions).
As always, I encourage you to join and follow our Facebook and Instagram page @AcadiaToday to keep up to date with neat new initiatives. We would also love to hear from you. Send us your ideas of what you would like to see and do in our neighbourhood. How can you get a hold of us? It’s easy. Email us at [email protected].
