Hello Acadians!

ACA Social Night

May 9

A friendly reminder to join us for our Social Night happening on Thursday, May 9. Our March Social Night was brimming with new faces and delightful conversation. We continue to hope to meet more of you at this family-friendly event where we provide snacks, refreshments, and games. See you at the ARC Social Lounge from 5:30 to 7:30 pm!

Mother’s Day Floral Arranging Workshop

May 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm

We are delighted to have Bonavista Flowers join us to run a floral arranging workshop right in time for Mother’s Day! Make a beautiful arrangement for a special someone in your life while learning new skills and making new connections. The workshop is $55 per person. Visit www.acadia.community/programs to register.

Community Cleanup

Saturday May, 11

Acadia’s annual community cleanup is back again for another year. In partnership with the City of Calgary, you can come between the times of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm to save yourself a trip to the landfill for items that do not fit into your waste and recycling carts. This event is very well attended so we are looking for volunteers to fill the roles required to make this event a success once again. Visit www.acadia.community/volunteer to sign up for the community cleanup.

Bike Parade

Date Change: Saturday, June 1

The bike parade event has been moved to June 1 as June is Bike Month in Calgary! Come kick off the month with our second annual Bike Parade! Festivities will commence in the Lord Beaverbrook parking lot between the ARC and the school in collaboration with Bike Calgary starting at 10:00 am. Families can find local treasures while adventurers can explore local partners throughout the city. Return your passport/bingo card for a chance to win prizes. For more details, visit www.acadia.community/bikeparade.

Neighbour Day Block Party

June 15

Nominations to host the Acadia Neighbour Day Block Party are still open until May 17 for Neighbour Day 2024. Each year, we present the opportunity for a street to host this event. If you want it to be yours, visit www.acadia.community/neighbourday to propose your block by filling out the form. Last year’s event was hosted by the residents on 86 Ave, and we sure had an amazing time! Join us again this year on June 15 to celebrate this amazing community and the people who live in it!

If you are a local artist, maker, or business and would like to participate in the Neighbour Day market, please email [email protected].

Parade of Garage Sales

June 22 and 23

Save the date for the Acadia Community Parade of Garage Sales! It will take place on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This year’s event is hosted and facilitated by Justyna Jakimowicz of Royal LePage Benchmark. Register your sale at www.acadiagaragesale.com to have your house included in the map for this year’s event. Home businesses are also invited to register. Don’t have a garage? Register to set up a trunk sale in the ARC parking lot!

We Need Your Help!

The ARC roof is due for replacement, and we are currently raising funds toward a summer construction project. This project is a significant financial undertaking, and as a non-profit organization, executing such a project is not possible without support from our community. If you can help out in any way, please visit www.acadia.community/donate to make a donation toward this much-needed project that will ensure longevity of the building and allow it to be a safe place for our users for years to come.

Panago Pizza Macleod is offering a free pizza to everyone who donates $100! Visit the front desk at the ARC for more details or email [email protected].

Volunteer with the ACA

We’re always looking for people to join our team as the success of our events and our ability to deliver on community projects and initiatives are dependent on our volunteers. There are a variety of opportunities to get involved. We are currently in need of chairs for our Membership Committee and our Community Engagement Committee. We’re also looking for more people to join our Events Committee. If you are available to help with any of these, please email us at [email protected].
