I would like to take a moment to say a huge thank you for all the amazing people who turned out for our Stampede Breakfast. From the volunteers to the guests, this event could not happen without you. Steve R. and his A&W 130 Ave team have been so generous by sponsoring all the food and every year brings an army of volunteers. Junk King for being our garbage guy and taking all of the waste away which is always such a huge part of a stampede breakfast. Our marching band this year was Our Lady of the Rockies, who did such an amazing set. So many great memories were created again this year.

I would like to give a shout out to Katrina Ra, who’s family have been fundraising to send their family member to camp. Thank you for sharing your story and the great spices. To get your pack of “Jake’s” seasoning, please ensure to reach out to her on Facebook. They also still had a bunch of Purdy’s chocolates as well.

The Community Gardens are coming along well again this year. As a reminder that each of the spots is tended to by local community gardeners, this space isn’t open to harvesting if you didn’t plant. So please help us continue to be an area that the gardeners can enjoy. If you are experiencing food insecurity, please feel free to reach out to us and we will ensure to include you when we harvest. We have posted the site map which shows the City of Calgary fruit orchard trees that we have by the white shed, and a few of the apple trees will have a small crop this year but aren’t quite ready yet.

We have some more meetings in the coming weeks about the Shade Structure; I hope to know more by end of August with the plans to the site.

We will have a follow up on the YYC Community Cleanup in the next edition as we will be hosting it again this weekend coming up.

Responsible Pet Ownership has been a topic a couple of times this past month, with a request to please share the information again. So please remember to not let your pet use someone’s well maintained front lawn as their bathroom and then leave their faeces for the homeowner to dispose of. We all knew when we adopted our pet that it was our responsibility. And remember we have an amazing dedicated off-leash park and if your dog is reactive and can’t go there, there are some amazing private facilities in the SE for your use/enjoyment.

With the upcoming City of Calgary Elections in October, I will strongly suggest that you take the time to get to know who the candidates are and what they are bringing to the table, as they will be your voice. Please just don’t vote for the person with the most signs.

The Community Kitchen Good Food Box program is open to any person who would like to purchase affordable and delicious produce. Please see the ABCA website and Facebook page for the link to the online order form.
