Hello Auburn Bay,
We hope you have been having a wonderful, safe summer so far!
I attempted to be at the Lakeshore Bear Fest Festival, but had a personal emergency come up that afternoon, and was unable to attend. I hope it went well for them. I did share my story on one Facebook page as I felt that knowing about a scam of hearing your child has been kidnapped was important to share.
The Community Gardens continue to grow, with all the beds having been planted. I am sure we will have a better crop of spare veggies to offer up this fall. I have mixed it up this year with planting some spare zucchini, Brussel sprouts, tomatoes, and beans. Please follow our Auburn Bay Community Garden page, as that is where we will be posting items. Additionally, we have posted the site map which shows the City of Calgary fruit orchard trees that we have by the white shed. Hopefully we will have a harvest to offer the community this year.
We have moved our old road signs to the site in order for us to share messages to the people on the site: Please don’t pick if you didn’t plant!
In addition to upcoming events…
We have some more meetings in the coming weeks about the Shade Structure; I hope to know more by end of August with the plans to the site.
We are in the final stages of planning our Annual Stampede Breakfast to be held on July 5, we hope to see you there at the future CA site (234 Auburn Bay Ave SE).
Reminder, we were given July 20 as our City of Calgary Community Cleanup date. As in the years past we will be hosting the paid service of mattress and car seat recycling, which means these items will not be open to throwing into the garbage trucks. Please see our website and social media for more details. Other services available will include metal and electronics recycling, donations, and garbage trucks. We will be hosting at the Prince of Peace school parking lot, with a one-way turn in from the north of Auburn Meadows Blvd. The event will run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm sharp, as the City trucks must be done at 2:00 pm! Last year we had to cut-off the line to meet the deadline, with many vehicles arriving after 2:00 pm. Volunteers will only be on hand to help direct traffic, so if you need help unloading, please bring your own helpers with you.
I recently learned that the province has decided to allow “parties” in the upcoming City of Calgary elections, and I am really not sure if this will be a benefit. It seems to have really polarized people to vote for the party vs the person. We no longer care who will do the best job at representing us, we seem to only care if they are liberal or conservative.
The Community Kitchen Good Food Box program is open to any person who would like to purchase affordable and delicious produce.
