Please consider this article as part of our AGM Notice to be held online on April 8, 2026. More details will be posted online and on Facebook.

We want to invite everyone who wants to know more about the Community Association and the important role we play within the community to our monthly CA meetings. They are held online the second Wednesday of the month online, please see our website and Facebook pages for the links. The ABCA is responsible for everything outside of the Lake/Auburn House. We are the group of dedicated volunteers that help plan: the community gardens, Parade of Lights, Stampede Breakfast, and YYC cleanup. With more exciting things to come.

We have seen a number of recent posts online about vehicles being stolen and broken into a number of locations in the SE, not just for Auburn Bay. Please ensure to secure your vehicle and personal belongings when you can. They will keep targeting areas that they know where people feel they are safe and aren’t as diligent in securing things.

We just received word that the development permit has been “approved” with work to be starting in the coming weeks. Our excitement over having a Shade Structure that we can access for additional events is growing. We have been approached by a number of groups on workshops they would like to host, and this structure will be helpful in seeing them happen. We will probably have to figure out a booking system as it grows, as we can see it being used for: outdoor classrooms for the schools, family potluck dinner nights, concerts in the park, and other outdoor events.

We have confirmed that our next ABCA casino will be September 18 and 19, 2026 at the Deerfoot Inn. We are just preparing to share the sign up for the event, please ensure to follow us on Facebook and check out our website. We will also be sharing the details from Auburn Bay Schools Casino May 7 and 8, in addition to the Lakeshore Bears Bingo on March 29, and May 31, 2026. These fundraising events are so important to us and the schools. We are looking to pull together other incentives for our volunteers as one person indicated that one shift covered can mean as much as $2,500 or just over $300 per hour for an eight-hour shift in revenue to the organization.

Our wonderful Newsletter Director Cristina R. is coming up with some options for the recipe of the month going into the future. We can only grow as an organization by continuing to think what more we can be doing for our community. If you know of anyone or a business that would like to submit something, please email [email protected] and she will add it to the list.

The City of Calgary updated us at the last CA meeting that they have approached the developer that is responsible for the 52 Street/Seton intersection and there are some plans underway to help improve traffic flow until such time as they remove all barriers.

We have started to pull together a full list of events for the upcoming year but will have to take into consideration of the Shade Structure build at the same time. We would love to have other community residents’ input on future events they would like to see please let us know.

We have started to pull together the community gardens for the upcoming 2026 year. If you are interested in a spot for this year, please ensure to email [email protected] and we will add you to the list.

The CBE held an open house relating to the new middle school to be built in Mahogany and covered how it would relate to Auburn Bay kids getting access to Lakeshore. It is my understanding that Mahogany is planned to open in 2029, which means we have to deal with our kids being bussed to other schools in the meantime.

I would like to take a moment and thank our past Good Food Box program depot volunteer Shannon for her dedication these past two years. We wish you well with your new home and understand that it wasn’t feasible to continue. If you know of anyone who would be willing to donate their time on one Friday a month with a garage, we could really use your help. In the meantime, the depot will be moving back to my home as we see a great value/service this offers to the community. This program offers everyone the opportunity to get a box of fruits/vegetables at a reasonable cost. You can get a small box (approximately 20 to 25 lbs) for $35, medium (30 to 35 lbs) for $40, or large (40 to 45 lbs) for $45, delivered to Auburn Bay once a month. Please check out the post on our website for the Google form to place your order. The next one will be March 9 for March 20, 2026, delivery.

Auburn Bay has a large number of Facebook groups. There is a Pet Group, Seniors Group, Grillers Group, Ladies Group, Food Lovers Group, Gardening Group, Community Garden Group, Ladies Clothing Exchange Group, Business Group, Buy-Nothing Group… the list is nearly endless. Make sure to go and check these fabulous interest groups out.
