1. Say Hello!

Take the time to get to know your neighbours and the people within your community. A great way to meet new people and make connections is by volunteering at the community centre. For volunteer opportunities, visit https://www.deerruncalgary.com/volunteer-opportunities.

2. Look Out for Events in Your Community

Events in your community are the perfect place to get involved. The DRCA website is up to date on all current events going on in your community! Events like our family Christmas parties and the Stampede Breakfasts are great places to get involved with our community, get to know members of the community, and find out what your community has to offer. See the calendar at www.deerruncalgary.com/events.

3. Participate in Our Programs

DRCA events aren’t the only place where you can get involved with your community. DRCA programs include tai chi, karate, seniors’ social group, yoga, pickleball, and so much more! For information and to sign up please visit https://www.deerruncalgary.com/programs-classes.

4. Come to Community Board Meetings

On the first Wednesday of each month, your neighbourhood committee holds a board meeting any community member can attend. At the board meeting, you can contribute ideas, learn about important local issues, and help plan and execute events in Deer Run and at the Deer Run Community Centre. At board meetings you also have a chance to meet the board members and volunteers helping behind the scenes in our community. But first you will need to purchase a $30 annual membership at https://www.deerruncalgary.com/membership.

5. Read and Contribute to Our Newsletter

Each month the DRCA newsletter team puts together the Deer Run community newsletter. The newsletter includes articles and events that are going on in your community. Offer to write a story, a poem, take photos, or edit copy. Getting involved can be a form of creative expression. Send submissions to [email protected].
