The community centre hosted our annual Halloween Jellybean Dance on October 27, and it was the most wonderful time of fear!
A Jellybean Dance is when we invite kids in Grades 3 to 6 to party like only they can. Entry costs $3 per child.
Recently, a new team of volunteers took on the role of planning and organizing the dances, and their execution was perfect. We had a record-breaking 111 kids this year. Congrats to the new team!
The best costume contest was a screaming success. The kids who dressed up went all out: face paint, funky hair, and alarming accessories. We saw some super detailed costumes including a blow-up balloon costume, a marionette, and lots of scary ghouls! Our volunteers even got into the Halloween spirit, dressing as a mermaid, a fisherman, and Waldo himself. There have been costumes that stood out over the years, including a super awesome Freddy Kruger costume and a duo costume of an owl in a tree.
The costume contest wasn’t the only chance to win prizes. There were also games including toilet paper toss, witch bowling, and our dance off. Volunteers wanted everyone to have a scary good time on the dance floor, so they hired a DJ to play all the right tunes. He was, of course, equipped with funky lights and a disco ball.
A few notes on future dances: when kids enter the dances they cannot leave and re-enter. There is a concession stand that sells hotdogs, candy, chips, pop, and chocolate bars. The concession stand is always cash-only and run by our volunteer team. We ask that parents pick up their kids at the end of the dance to make sure everyone arrives home safe.
