Happy New Year, Deer Run!
As we step into a brand-new year, let’s take a moment to reflect on the highlights and achievements of our vibrant community over the past 12 months. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Deer Run a warm and welcoming place to live, work, and play. Here are some memorable moments from 2023:
January 2024
The DRCA finalized kitchen renovations and planned exciting daycare upgrades, including child-friendly facilities and expanded spaces for September 2024. Air ducts were cleaned for better air quality. It was a slow news month.
February 2024
Daycare improvements progressed with plans for child-friendly bathrooms, new furniture, and an additional room above the squash court. The weight room received its final equipment, boosting memberships. A rink surface project was underway for 2024. The skate party, supported by local donors, was a splashy success.
March 2024
The centre received City funding for various projects, including new gym doors, a sump pump system, plumbing repairs, lighting remediation, rink poles, fire shutters, and bathroom vanities. Daycare improvements progressed with colour selection and designs awaiting permits. New asphalt funding for the rink was secured.
April 2024
We had a wonderfully successful Family Easter Party with an egg hunt and the appearance of the Easter Bunny.
May 2024
The Deer Run Parade of Garage Sales was a success, with a great response and a car parade.
June 2024
The Stampede breakfast was a massive success! Daycare upgrades began, and the Deer Run Board seeks help with various positions and community projects.
July and August 2024
Construction got underway at the daycare and in the gym, getting everything ready for programs to start up again in September.
September 2024
The Annual Community Cleanup ran without a hitch, as we diverted 16,185 kg of waste, keeping our community beautiful.
October 2024
We cleared the cheque from the Casino Night at the Deerfoot Inn, funding operating costs for the community centre. There were also haunted houses run in the community and a well-attended Halloween Dance.
November 2024
The Annual General Meeting on November 20 highlighted community achievements and offered residents a chance to get involved. Volunteer awards celebrated individuals like Jessica Krowder and Arry Van Eck for their dedication.
December 2024
The Giving Tree tradition continued to brighten the season, and the second annual Christmas Market brought 40 vendors to the gym and a food truck to celebrate the season.
Looking Ahead
None of this is possible without volunteers. Please join us so we can celebrate even more successes in the new year. As we welcome 2025, we’re excited for more events, projects, and opportunities to connect as a community. Here’s to another fantastic year in Deer Run!
