1. Get Outside!
As the leaves start to change colour, the air will get colder, so spend some time outside while you still can! We recommend a nice walk in Fish Creek Provincial Park. Start at Hull’s Wood and linger at a table under the fall foliage for a while. Enjoy a campfire in the crisp air with a pumpkin spiced ale perhaps – as many of the tables here are licensed. Head East to enjoy views of migrating birds and anglers as the path winds around the Bow River South towards the boat launch. Go West to cross the road, look for the owls adjacent Sikome before circling back to Hull’s Wood in the North.
2. Carve a Pumpkin
What’s more festive than carving a pumpkin? Pumpkins are typically available at your local grocery store and have a range of sizes. Make sure you have the tools: a sharp knife, a serrated spoon to scoop out the guts, and a thick sharpie to draw your design. In the end you’ll have the perfect Jack-o’-lantern for Halloween night.
3. Make Some Soup
As the weather gets colder, having some warm soup is always a nice treat. Use the leftover bones from your Thanksgiving turkey to make a killer homemade soup broth. Got scraps? Leftover veggie scraps from your onions, carrots, celery, or broccoli are put to good use here. Throw in your leftover turkey or ham and you’ve made two meals out of one.
4. Do Some Holiday Baking
Nothing is better than some good holiday baking. Indoor hobbies and activities are essential as the weather gets colder. Some popular traditional baking ideas for the season include ginger snap cookies, pumpkin bread, and carrot cake.
5. Trick or Treat!
Although the activity might not appear to apply to all ages, those of us too old to stalk the neighbourhood for candy can have a lot of fun by handing out chocolate and gummies from inside the comfort of our own haunted houses.
