Douglasdale Maintenance Association – Keeping Our Community Attractive – Message for June

Walkways

Spring is here and it is time to get ready for summer. When you are doing the spring cleanup and if there is a walkway adjacent to your property, take a few extra minutes and clean the walkway as well. Twigs and branches collect which can be a tripping hazard. The trees in the community are maturing so leaves also collect in these areas along with paper, cans, etc. Talk to your neighbour on the other side of the pathway, make plans to do it together. Tidying these areas will keep Douglasdale an attractive community.

Yard Waste

Whether doing spring cleanup or yard tidying throughout the year, please dispose of waste responsibly. Use your household recycling bins when possible. Remember, all organic matter such as leaves, twigs, grass, branches, etc. can go into the green cart. Do not dump debris outside of your property, in parks or other public areas. If you have more waste than what can fit in your bins, hire a contractor to remove it.

Trees

The DMA (Douglasdale Maintenance Association) has no responsibility for trees. They fall under Urban Forestry which is a division of City Parks. If you have any concerns about trees such as broken branches on the ground, trimming is required, it appears they may be diseased, etc., please call 3-1-1.

Swales

Almost half of the properties in Douglasdale have a swale at the rear of and sometimes adjacent to their property which serves to drain water during rainstorms and spring runoff. During the year, they can become filled with debris such as dirt, needles from evergreens, seeds from bird feeders, flowers, etc. During the fall they fill with leaves. To allow for good drainage and to prevent the back up of water, please make a point of clearing the swales regularly.

Hearing from Residents

Thanks to those who take time to send an email thanking us and expressing appreciation for the work we do to keep the community looking attractive. All board members are volunteers, and we are always hoping for new additions.

Following is an example of one of those emails:

“Good Day,

A quick note of thanks for all the time and effort it takes to keep the Douglasdale Community looking so elegant and appealing.

The plantings are lovely. The boulevards are a delight to drive along.

Grateful to be a part of this neighbourhood.”
