This year we had our first annual Food Drive for the Veteran’s Association, just in time for Thanksgiving. We love that it is run by Veterans for Veterans. Thanks to Tanya who organized the event, as well as all of our neighbours, the Knights Hockey and LBCA; the event was a huge success. The delicious homemade Rhubarb Chili Chutney made by a neighbour using community rhubarb was quickly scooped up and the money raised was matched using a donation from Safeway. We are thankful for all of our veterans.

We had to reimagine our Christmas initiative this year and settled on an online book drive hosted by our neighbour Carol through Usborne Books. 25% of the sales will purchase books for The Children’s Link Society, an organization many children rely on including in our neighbourhood, and Calgary Reads. The event only runs until mid-November. We miss congregating as a community. One of the best things about Bonavista and Parkland Cares is visiting with others while giving back, but we are hoping everyone can enjoy a little shopping for themselves and/or these amazing kids that we are supporting for Christmas; books offer so much joy, which everyone needs more than ever this season. For more information check out our Facebook page or email us at [email protected].

Christmas is going to look a little different for everyone, but we will still enjoy old traditions while making new ones. One tradition we plan on continuing is supporting Parkland Cares Gift Card drive for the families at Wilma Hansen High School. It’s a great way to get in the Christmas spirit! Check out our page for more information in November/December.

We hope you are safe and warm as we head into Christmas season, and please reach out if you need at anything [email protected].
