Spring Cleaning: A Fresh Start for Your Home (and Your Head)
by Christie Crawford, Local Realtor
Spring has a funny way of sneaking up on us. One day it’s just snow boots, pants, and coats in the entryway, and the next you’re opening windows and realizing that you have accumulated so much stuff. Spring cleaning isn’t about perfection—it’s a gentle reboot for your home after a long Calgary winter.
If the idea feels overwhelming, start small. Pick one drawer, closet, or even just a shelf.
A few easy, realistic tips:
• Edit before you clean. It’s much easier to wipe down surfaces once the clutter is gone. If you haven’t used it in a year and it doesn’t spark joy or purpose, it may be time to let it go.
• Work room by room. Set a timer for 30 to 45 minutes and stop when it goes off. You don’t need to do it all in one weekend.
• Don’t forget the “invisible†spots. Furnace filters, baseboards, window tracks, light switches—small things that make a big difference.
• Garage plus storage areas matter. Spring is the perfect time to reclaim these spaces before bikes, sports gear, and patio furniture come out to play.
Spring cleaning isn’t just about your house—it’s about how it feels to live in it. Lighter. Calmer. Easier to breathe. Regularly maintaining your property creates a clean, clutter-free home which also holds its value better and shows beautifully for entertaining or for when the time comes to sell.
Open the windows. Let the light in. Do what you can—and leave the rest for another day. That counts too.
