Life can feel overwhelming at times, especially when we face uncertainty or change. But here’s the beautiful thing: we’re not meant to go it alone. Communities thrive when we come together, lean on each other, and create networks that lift everyone up. As someone who’s worked closely with community associations like our Calgary Legacy Community Association (CLCA), I’ve seen the magic they bring to our neighbourhoods.
In Ward 14, we’re lucky to have active community associations in most areas, though Wolf Willow and Walden are still growing theirs. These groups are so much more than event planners or facility managers. They’re the heartbeat of our communities. Think about it: where else can you find a place to connect, get support, and access programs tailored to your needs? From outreach services and low-income support, these associations are lifelines for so many. They don’t just offer practical help, they also create spaces where people can grow, belong, and thrive, and provide events that bring us together. I’ve seen it time and time again. A simple decision to attend a community event or volunteer can change someone’s life. It might lead to a support system during tough times, or even a lifelong friendship. These moments remind us that we’re stronger together.
So, here’s my challenge to you: get involved. If you’re in an area with an active community association, show up. Let’s work together to build something amazing. Let’s create neighbourhoods where no one feels left behind, where everyone has the tools and connections they need to succeed.
Because when we come together, we don’t just build communities – we build homes.
