Community Newsletter MckenzieTowne

Hello, McKenzie Towne!

It’s November already! Doesn’t it feel like this fall is going by more quickly than the rest of the year has? It’s exciting to have the MTCA almost back into full swing and we are looking forward to getting back to planning events. Typically, since we don’t have a physical location, our events are held outside, and we try to plan them in seasons that are prone to better weather. Because some community outreach is much needed right now, we are planning a Festival of Lights! There will be a tour map and prizes, so watch our Facebook page for more information.

The MTCA is hoping to have more community involvement in what we do. We are currently organizing our committees and looking for McKenzie Townites to be a part of them.

Events, Fundraising, and Community Development Group: Did you know the CA currently gets all of its funds from the voluntary $10 annual membership? Our membership database is usually only around 85 people. That’s only $850 per year for us to cover costs for everything we would like to do. If you enjoy planning, socializing, and being engaged in the community or have a great idea for an event, this group is for you! We need a lot of people to make these events happen, and also a few dedicated people to take lead and plan them. The MTCA can provide the support and volunteers you need to make your event a reality. (I am the assigned board member of this group!)

Sponsorship and Membership Group: Are you well connected in the community or enjoy building relationships with local businesses? Do you have some great ideas on how to engage the community and get them to become members each year? If you are, we need you! The MTCA is also looking to partner with more local businesses. Even if we have been in contact with your before, please reach out to us! We love to support our local community through events and promotional giveaways on our social media.

Each group will be led by a board member who will arrange meeting times for their selected group. This means you can be involved without having to attend actual board meetings and only focus on what you’d like to do for the community! Email us at [email protected] or message us through our social media and we will put you in touch with the leader of the group(s) you’re interested in.

Our next open meeting will be Wednesday, December 9, and will be held online. The link will be mailed to all current members and will also be posted in our Facebook group. If you are interested in being a part of it but are not on our mailing list or Facebook, please reach out to us, and we will send you the link. We will have guest speakers in attendance such as representatives from the Calgary Police Service, Shane Keating’s Ward 12 office, the City of Calgary, and other organizations. The main focus of the MTCA is to bring our community together by being the liaison between these organizations and also by planning community events. PLEASE NOTE: We are the MTCA, not the MTC. The McKenzie Towne Council (MTC) is the board that is in control of our annual Homeowner Association (HOA) fees, and they are in charge of maintaining the environment and physical amenities in McKenzie Towne. MTCA meetings do not address these issues, although we often have discussions about the traffic circle.

Memberships for 2021 are now on sale. For $10 a year, you can help support our community outreach. Please visit our website, www.mckenzietowneca.com/memberships, for more information. Feel free to reach out to our board at [email protected] or to me directly at [email protected]. You can also find us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MCKTCA) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/mckenzietowneca).

Sincerely,

Sarah Ferguson
