Dear Diamond Cove Homeowners,
Spring is here, and with it comes a time of renewal and reflection. As we enter May, it’s incredible to think that a full year has passed since I volunteered for the role of President of the Diamond Cove Homeowners Association. It has been a busy, challenging, and rewarding year, and I want to take this opportunity to reflect on all that we’ve accomplished together.
This past year was particularly significant as we had a dedicated and engaged board focused on making positive changes in our community. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to fellow board members for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to improving Diamond Cove. A heartfelt thank you goes out to:
• Mike Goodwin
• Susan Joshi
• Kayla Coady
• Bev Jarvis
• Cheri Howe
• Judie Parker
Your gift of time and energy has truly made a difference. Serving on a volunteer board is no small task, and each of these individuals stepped up to take on responsibilities.
Progress and Achievements
Coming into this year, we knew there was a lot to do. Looking back, we may have set our sights on more than we could realistically accomplish in a single year, but we made incredible progress in many areas. Here are some of the key initiatives we worked on:
Community Enhancements and Events
• Playground Project: One of the most exciting projects was seeing the playground improvement from concept to reality, ensuring that our neighbourhood has a safe and fun space for children to play.
• Playground Grand Opening: To celebrate this milestone, we hosted a grand opening event, made possible with the generous support of sponsors. It was wonderful to see the community come together to enjoy the new space.
• Christmas Light Contest: We successfully brought back the annual Christmas Light Contest, encouraging residents to decorate their homes and spread holiday cheer throughout Diamond Cove. Thanks to generous sponsorship we were able to offer prizes and recognize the most festive displays, making the season even brighter for everyone.
Governance and Community Advocacy
• Drafting New Bylaws: Our board worked diligently to draft a new set of Bylaws, ensuring that they reflect the current and future needs of our community. While these remain in draft form, we hope to finalize them for membership approval in the coming year.
• Engagement with the City of Calgary: We attended multiple meetings and information sessions with the City to discuss the Enhanced Landscape Management Program, gaining insight into how we can maintain and improve public spaces in our community.
• Liability and Directors and Officers Insurance: A significant administrative achievement was obtaining liability insurance for the Diamond Cove Homeowners Association and Directors and Officers Insurance, which protects the board and ensures we can continue our work responsibly.
Strengthening Community Communication and Engagement
• Regular Board Meetings: Over the past twelve months, we held at least six board meetings, ensuring that we stayed on top of key issues and maintained a transparent decision-making process.
• Keeping Residents Informed: We made it a priority to communicate more frequently about the board’s activities and the decisions that impact our community. We recognize that good communication is essential, and we hope to continue improving in this area.
Looking Ahead to the Next Year
While we are proud of what we’ve achieved, we also recognize that we were probably busier than we should have been. Going forward, we want to focus on two to three key goals per year, ensuring we can accomplish them effectively. Some of the areas we hope to prioritize include:
• Finalizing and approving the new Bylaws.
• Continuing to work with the City on neighbourhood improvements.
• Expanding community events and engagement opportunities.
Spring and Summer Reminders
With the warmer weather upon us, there are a few seasonal reminders for all residents:
Water Restrictions: As Calgary has experienced a dry year, it’s likely that water restrictions will be in place. To help conserve water, consider:
• Watering your lawn and garden in the early morning or late evening to reduce evaporation.
• Installing rain barrels to collect water for irrigation.
• Checking for leaks and fixing them promptly.
• Using drought-resistant plants in your garden.
Home Maintenance: Spring is the perfect time to inspect and repair fences, as well as refresh outdoor spaces. Fences are the responsibility of individual homeowners and maintaining them enhances the overall appearance of our neighbourhood.
Community Safety: With more children playing outside, we remind everyone to drive cautiously and respect crosswalks. Speeding continues to be an issue in Diamond Cove, and we ask all residents to slow down and keep an eye out for pedestrians and cyclists.
Garage Sale – September 6: Looking ahead to the fall, we are excited to announce that the annual Parade of Garage Sales will take place on Saturday, September 6. This is a great opportunity to declutter, earn some extra cash, and meet your neighbours. The event will once again be sponsored by Royal LePage Benchmark, and we encourage everyone to participate!
Neighbour Day – June 21, 2025
Mark your calendars! We’re excited to host another Neighbour Day on June 21, 2025. While the details are still being finalized, we’re planning a fun and welcoming event where residents can gather, enjoy some snacks, and get to know one another.
Neighbour Day is a celebration of community spirit, held annually on the third Saturday in June. It’s an opportunity to create a more welcoming and inclusive community where neighbours can connect and build lasting relationships. Good things happen when you get to know your neighbours, they add a friendly visit to your day, and you can lend a helping hand when needed. Social connections reduce loneliness and isolation, fostering a strong sense of belonging in our community.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating what makes Diamond Cove such a great place to live. Stay tuned for more details on our social media channels as the event approaches!
Thank You for Your Support!
As we enter a new year of service to the community, I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. Being part of a homeowners association is about more than just attending meetings—it’s about coming together to build a strong, vibrant, and connected neighbourhood.
We look forward to continuing this journey and making Diamond Cove an even better place to call home. If you have any questions, ideas, or would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you all a wonderful spring and summer!
Warm regards,
Sonia Dantu
