Queensland Diamond Cove Community Association President’s Message

Hello,

I hope that you and your family have had a great time on our two skating rinks. We could not have done it without the help of the following volunteers: Fenix, Creston, Preston, John, Stephan, Raymond, Patrick, Tyler, Pang, and Malcolm and anyone who was missed from this list, I am sorry but very much appreciate the time you all put in this year.

This month I asked the rink volunteers to write down why they choose to volunteer for our community rink.

“I grew up on the rink and wanted to keep it going.”

“To give back to the community that gave me a rink to skate on as a kid.”

“I like working at the rink because I see that I am valued. We need to attract younger volunteers.”

“I like being around other volunteers, families, and kids who love the game.”

“I like to work around other like-minded people making ice.”

“It feels good to see the finished clean and frozen surface, I am able to walk away and admire the finished product.”

“Fresh air, exercise, health, and wellness.”

“There is something oddly satisfying turning water into ice, families making memories.”

“Quietly helping create the magic behind the scenes. Volunteers laugh as they wobble, fall, and get back up, frozen fingers, way too much pride looking over the smooth surface. I am allowing someone to have a good day when their skates touch the surface. It is all worth it.”

“I am giving back to the community rink where I learnt to skate.”

“I was fortunate to watch Malcolm flood the rink; it is amazing how so much water gets poured onto the surface. I really had no idea the work that goes into preparing the surface. Thank you again for our service to our community.”
