Hello everyone,
Your Braeside Community Association is trusting that you have been well since early March when the COVID-19 precautions went into effect. Now we are looking forward to the coming positive changes.
In April, we sent out a Braeside Community Survey to our BCA membership using SurveyMonkey. Thank you to all who took the time to respond.
Space restrictions on these pages prevent us from sharing the full results to all the questions, but a couple of interesting highlights include: Braeside is a great location within Calgary (strongly agree, 47.5%), quiet neighbourhood to live in (strongly agree, 37.5%), medium density with single-family, condos, townhouses (strongly agree, 27.5%), green spaces (strongly agree, 37.5%) and good access to Fish Creek, South Glenmore Park, Leisure Centre (strongly agree, 62.5%).
Some answers to a question about what would you change about Braeside, include: Crosswalks are not safe, I love this community, noise, update playgrounds, better roads, bike lanes would be great.
This information is valuable to us and we will use it as guidance in our work advocating for Braeside.
You should have received from the City of Calgary the latest property tax notification for your home.
There have been some news items of persons very unhappy with the tax increase year over year with amounts greater than $22 per month. Mayor Nenshi has expressed the $22 per month amount for the average priced home in Calgary.
For more information and to make your own conclusion, here are the voting results:
Voting FOR the 2020 tax freeze: Sean Chu and Jeromy Farkas.
Voting AGAINST the 2020 tax freeze: Naheed Nenshi, Ward Sutherland, Joe Magliocca, Jyoti Gondek, George Chahal, Jeff Davison, Druh Farrell, Evan Woolley, Gian-Carlo Carra, Ray Jones, Shane Keating, Diane Colley-Urquhart, Peter Demong.
In the past, you may have expressed your displeasure to your ward councillor. Let’s look beyond our Ward 11 and consider the whole City Council who make the decisions. In reality, the Council as a whole are working for us, it’s not just our Ward 11 Councillor.
In addition to contacting your Ward 11 Councillor ([email protected]) with your opinion on taxes, or any City item, other ward councillors can be contacted using the ward number at address of [email protected] and [email protected].
We are approaching the end of our membership year. Having lost all of our sources of revenue as a result of the COVID-19 closure, your support through membership purchase is more critical than ever. Please renew your BCA membership or if you are not a member or have let your membership lapse, please take out a membership today. We now accept e-transfers and those can be sent to [email protected]. Thank you for your support.
Please stay well and take care,
Robert Grigg
