Braeside’s December President’s Update

I can’t believe it’s November already! There’s no better reminder of how great our neighbourhood is than Braeside in the fall.

I’ve had a busy few months. During the municipal election I was interviewed by the Calgary Herald about what the BCA was hoping to see in a new councillor. I spoke about our mandate being to firstly serve the community. I know it has been a difficult year for many Braeside families and we need a champion and a collaborator representing us to help us support those who need it the most. I also shared concerns many of you have contacted me about, like the loss of public transit service and unsafe road infrastructure.

Thank you to those of you who shared positive feedback about the article – I was happy to see our community and our neighbouring communities highlighted.

As most of you know, we now have a new councillor. Councillor Penner is no stranger to Braeside, you may remember her as a volunteer at our Community Clean-up this summer.

She is also a regular at the dog park. I know Councillor Penner personally as the former President of the Haysboro Community Association. I have already spoken to her and welcomed her into the role. She shared these words with me: “I am excited to represent the beautiful community of Braeside and get to know more about your neighbourhood and how I can support the BCA. I am working on setting up our new team and office, but please reach out to my office at [email protected] anytime to connect”.

As we near the end of the year, our board is thinking about the new year and planning for our AGM (date TBD). We are looking for new board members to join our team, especially anyone interested in fundraising, membership and volunteer management, and governance. No experience necessary! I am happy to have a coffee with anyone wanting to learn more. I can be reached at [email protected].

Stay safe and warm out there, and as always, take care of each other.
