It Should Be a Colourful Year for the Ecosystem Garden
146 and counting. That’s the number of plants we’ve put in the ground at the ecosystem garden so far this year. The large native species garden on the hill was planted late May. The small crescent shape native grasses bed was also planted in May with the edging and mulch completed in June.
The latest addition at the time of writing was the Gladiator Roseybush Crab Apple tree, named Rosey of course!
Next on our list is completion of the English Cottage Garden to the North on the side of the hill where there are already some irises, day lilies, narcissus, and asters in bloom. In early July you can expect the likes of bachelor buttons, bell flowers, lavender, hydrangea, delphiniums, phlox, and California poppy among others, including a mock orange tree to provide shade. Thanks to our planting crew: Stewart, Mike, Matt, Jenny, Brenda, and Beck so far. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in August.
We hope to host a couple of garden gathering events after all the planting is done, so keep a watch for that on the BCA Facebook page. If you are interested in participating in the garden committee, send a note to [email protected]. We do a lot more than dig holes.
