Clean up time is here! Our annual community clean up is coming on Sunday, May 29 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. CMCA is once again partnering with the City of Calgary Community Service and Waste & Recycling to offer residents an opportunity to dispose of unwanted household trash that cannot go into your black bins.
City of Calgary Waste & Recycling has made a few changes to the clean up program this year. The packer trucks on-site will not accept household organic waste – only items destined for the landfill.
Residents should access the City of Calgary Throw & Go landfill sites for these year-round, free of charge drop off locations for household organic waste. (Trees and branches, loam/dirt, and sod).
No hazardous household items can be placed into the packer trucks. Please use the City of Calgary’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop-Off Program for your used oil, paints, chemicals etc.
The Canyon Meadows Community Association has decided to collect the following items for our members only: Used electronics, propane tanks, used batteries, and tires. There will also be access to secure paper shredding on site. (Two boxes per member) We have arranged to have a truck here to collect gently used household items for donation.
CMCA has hired Sanil, everyone’s favorite hauler, to pick up items for senior community members that cannot manage to get their large items down to the community on May 29. You must have a current community membership to access this service. Please call or email Bonnie in the office to have your name added to the list. Pick ups are limited.
Currently, there are no restrictions in place and all health measures have been lifted. Please note that all the participants of the CMCA Community Clean up will be required to follow all active provincial and local public health measures during the community clean up event. For more information, visit www.alberta.ca/covid-19-public-health-actions.aspx and www.calgary.ca/covid19.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Bonnie at [email protected] or 403-251-1715.
There are other things happening at the community that you might want to know…
The collection bin for Earthware has been replaced on-site. This service provides users a drop-off location for their return-for-reuse takeout containers. This free membership-based Calgary company is working to eliminate one-time use takeout food container waste. Canyon Meadows Community Association is excited to support this environmental initiative. Please visit Earthware Calgary for more information.
The Good Food Box Program has accepted CMCA as a depot. This program offers Calgarians fresh, affordable produce at a reduced cost. The Good Food Boxes come in three sizes, a small box (20+ lbs) for $25, medium box (30+ lbs) for $30, and a large box (40+ lbs) for $35.
Orders are submitted monthly from the CMCA office and will be delivered to the community centre the week after. All requests for boxes must be paid for in cash when placing your order.
There are no orders or deliveries in July and August. The next order dates for CMCA are May 2 and May 30.
Until next month…
