Cedarbrae – Using 3-1-1 in Calgary

There is some confusion regarding citizens using 3-1-1. So, when should we call 3-1-1 and what happens when we do.

Calling 3-1-1 should be for bylaw related issues, these include potholes, waste removal, street cleaning, weeds out of control, even your city tax questions. When 3-1-1 is called a case file is opened on their system. The case file is then handed over to the proper department to deal with your issue. At that time the 3-1-1 system shows it as closed, and you received notification of it being closed. This does not mean your case is closed it means that it has been transferred to the correct people.

The City is working on this misconception to make the process more transparent. When we appear not to get action on our issue because of a closed file we should not call the Councillor’s office. This is for policy issues and bylaws. Policies and procedures.

Policing Summit March 2025

Recently several community members were invited to attend a policing summit. The police and the commission are working on the 28 recommendations on the downtown core.

They are working hard to get to the root of peoples’ addiction to break the cycle of treatment, and re-abusing drugs or alcohol and getting people off the streets. They have seen a 15% reduction in violent crime, 12% decrease in mental health calls, and 80% less drug poisonings.

One thing that we can do is to report prowling’s, destruction of property etc. Cedarbrae is considered a low crime area therefore we see a lower police presence. If we do not report we will not see police and our crimes will not get into the statistics, therefore, we will not get the policing. So, if you see a prowling, vandalism, or a break-in please go online or pick-up the phone and report it!
