Hi! My name is Inam Teja, and I’m the new Vice President of the CHPH Community Association! I first moved to Patterson as a six-year-old just before starting grade one, and this community was where I grew up!
The concept of home has been tricky for me – over the last ten years I have lived in five cities and three countries, and I have had a lot of people ask me, “so where’s home?”, and in my head I always think about the house I grew up in, the playground just up the hill, and the rink where I learned to ride a bike. This place is my home.
Despite that, at 18, I packed up my bags and moved away to London, Ontario to do undergrad degrees in business and global studies at Western University, which I followed up with a few years of working abroad in Tajikistan. Last year, I completed my master’s degree in public policy from Oxford University with a concentration in housing and homelessness. I am now living happily back in Patterson and working as a policy and research analyst at the Calgary Drop In Centre!
Since coming back, I’ve been really impressed with the work of the CHPH Community Association – the great food truck nights, the always fun stampede breakfast, and the big plans for an Activity Hub are all things I want to contribute to. I’ve learned a lot with my work in the housing sector, and one thing that always stays with me is the role that community plays in turning a house into a home. I joined the CHPH Community Association so that everyone can feel that sense of belonging and pride when they call our neighbourhood their home.
