You may have noticed that there is fencing around the old rink behind the Badminton Alberta Centre. The City of Calgary and Badminton Alberta have mutually agreed to terminate the license of occupation of the facility at 60 Patterson Blvd SW, effective August 21, 2023. As part of the agreement, the old rink, which has fallen into disrepair, will be dismantled for safety.
Starting September 1, the building will be under the administration of the City of Calgary while they look for a new partner in that space.
Some might ask why the community association did not take the opportunity to lease the building, which served as our community hall in the 90s and early 2000s. The simple answer is that we do not have the funds or people-power to take on a facility of this size with complex operational requirements.
