AGM Recap

At the 2024 AGM, held September 11, 2024, at the hall, we had approximately 20 community members attend to hear a presentation from the board, as well as comments from MP Ron Liepert and Councillor Richard Pootmans. Highlights include:

• Recognition of the many events hosted by the GGMCA in our newly re-opened hall

• The hiring of three staff

• Opening of the Seedlings Early Learning daycare

• Near completion of financial matters related to the multi-year hall renovation with a grant surplus that can be stewarded and 50/50 matched to support certain additional upgrades and program supports

• The importance of volunteers to cover shifts at our casino to raise over $30,000 for the community association

• Increasing membership, driven in parts by tennis and courts participation

• New opportunities for membership engagement and volunteering on enhancements of the property around the hall, such as the Naturally, Glendale project proposal.

Welcome to the 2024-25 GGMCA Board

At the AGM, outgoing President Chris Welner was warmly recognized for his 20-year involvement with the community in many roles. Outgoing board members Kendra Horosko and Mike Meredith were also thanked for their time on the board. We look forward to continuing to work with all of them in their off-board capacities as we continue to make sure Glendale is the best little town in the City.

We were pleased to elect the following community members to the 2024-25 GGMCA Board:

• President: Myles Trawick

• Vice President: Amanda Saigeon

• Second Vice President: TBD at next board meeting

• Treasurer: Shane Duthie

• Secretary: Laura Nixon

• Members-At-Large: Monika Smith (membership), Aaron Shannon (website, courts), Veronika Duska, Jessica Pedlow, Kent Viccars, Daryl Drainville and John Mar

Thank you to all of these individuals for giving their time and talents to steward the GGMCA so that we can continue to be a hub of information and engagement for Glendale residents.

City of Calgary Community Profile: Glendale

Did you know that a City website, https://www.calgary.ca/communities/profiles.html contains demographic information about the population living in private households? The information available is currently from the 2021 census, with the next census taking place in 2026. Information about the city and by ward is also available. In 2021, Glendale had a population of 2,715, with 16% being 14 years old and younger, and 18% being 65 years old and older. Average household family size was 2.5 persons. The majority of households speak English as a primary language, including households with First Nations and Métis identities, plus households speaking Arabic, Yue (Cantonese), Mandarin, Korean, Illocano, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, Tagalog, and Portuguese! According to the forecast, Glendale’s population is expected to grow at a lower rate than the City’s overall, but to still exceed a 20% population increase by 2042, compared to 2014.
