Glendale’s Note from the Editor for March

Glendale cn

Hi Glendale,

“It’s in you to give!” That has been the slogan of Canadian Blood Services for several years, and I thought I would highlight how easy it is to donate in Calgary, in case you have never tried it!

Fully appreciating that some folks may not be eligible to donate or feel comfortable with donating, this information is for those who have been curious about whether and how to get involved.

Calgary has a brand-new donation centre. You can check it out at blood.ca/en/Calgary. It’s located downtown a few blocks from the LRT line and the Calgary Tower. Meaning, it’s only a 10-minute drive or 35-minute train trip from our community.

One important thing to know about donating is: there’s snacks! You are actively encouraged to enjoy a drink (water, juice) and some food (pretzels, cookies) before and after your donation. During your donation, your chair is reclined so you can put your feet up and watch a bit of TV. Think of it as a little ‘me’ time within your busy day.

This winter, Canadian Blood Services is running the blood.ca/450 challenge. To keep pace with patient need across the country they need 450 new donors a day to join Canada’s Lifeline. Every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood products. To take the next step towards your first donation, you can check out https://myaccount.blood.ca/en/eligibility-quiz.
