With all that is happening in the world right now, it may be hard not say, “What can I do to help the world be a better place?” Sure, we might want to change the world and get involved in “world changing” high level things; however, I once read if you really want to change the world, start with your family and local community. There, you can actually change someone’s world.
That’s why when I saw the incredible social media messages and pictures of the positive impact that the Halloween Scavenger Hunt had on our local community family, I knew our little world was a better place. As a community, we must say thank you to Fiona and Heather for taking on the organizing role for this event. We must also say thank you to the house decorators, kids, sponsors, and unnamed others who made this community event possible. Even in these challenging and difficult times, it is encouraging to know that we still have lights in our community that shine brightly to make it a better place.
There are countless ways to help improve our community world, such as being a snow angel, connecting with someone who has been isolated, or just being kind to each other. Some examples are like how our new board member, Stephanie Thomas, has taken on the editor role to submit articles like these to the Haysboro Horn for publication. Or like Teresa Tousignant and Sam Bakker, working to prioritize our lifecycle improvements for the community centre. Or like our Vice President, Jason Planidin, and Treasurer, Miranda Bartman, contributing countless hours to ensure the community centre is operating and its finances are in order. Or like Diane Ward, who goes above and beyond at the community centre. Or like Shannon Bowen-Kelsick, ensuring our community centre renters are well taken care of. Or like Laura Sparrow, keeping our community centre clean and safe. Or like Warren Monterio, diligently working in the background to help improve our communications and technology. Or like Anne Grosse, who continually promotes our community on Instagram. Or like our other board members, Sarah Goard-Baker, Denise Palmer, Mark Stephen, and Igor Guelber, who help to provide guidance to the association. Of course, you don’t have to be a board member to get involved to make a difference. Get involved in various local ambitions that need help, such as organizing events, or helping the community association operate. We have a number of committees where we can use your help. If you wish to get involved, please contact Diane at [email protected] and she can pass your information along.
As we move into what will be a very different holiday season, let’s continue to shine your lights brightly and make our community a better place.
Regards,
Stefan Bell
