It’s back to school and back to business! I hope you all enjoyed the summer and enjoyed some time off for rest and relaxation.
We are back for general meetings on the third Wednesday of the month, so please feel welcome to join on September 20 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the Social Lounge.
This is a call out for help. We are looking for a casino coordinator. Our casino fundraiser night will take place in the first quarter of 2024 (January to March); exact dates are TBD. This volunteer will play a pivotal role in organizing shifts of volunteers to help at a specific casino location for approximately two nights. The funds raised are significant for the HCA and hall, often covering utility bills, and we all know how those costs have increased lately!
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in the role.
Another note is about the RioCan development project for Glenmore Landing. The HCA board has limited contact with the developers, and the hall has served as a host location for their information sessions. I wanted to clarify that we are not highlighted as a stakeholder group, but we do have some opportunities to share feedback. Our planning committee is taking the lead on these discussions. As a board, we have not come up with a unified position regarding the project. There’s more information to be gathered.
We are referring residents who wish to provide feedback about the project to submit directly to the City of Calgary or the Ward 11 office. If and when developers present at an HCA meeting, I will do my best to share that information in advance so that residents have an opportunity to attend.
While it may seem like a while ago, I wanted to do a shoutout to the amazing volunteers on Community Cleanup day. With an assortment of recycling/landfill stations, hundreds of carloads of unwanted items were dropped off. The parking lot outside the hall looked like an efficient assembly line operation. Well done to everyone who participated.
The Parade of Garage Sales was also a highlight. It was great to see neighbours gather, and it’s great that many household items could find a new home for a small fee.
At the board, we continue to assist with project management and renovations at the hall. The skate shack flooring, upstairs flooring, electrical panels, and tennis courts have all been renewed this summer.
I encourage you to come to our September board meeting and check us out!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Thomas
