The Killarney Glengarry Development Committee is thrilled to share an exciting opportunity that supports the #1 priority outlined in our Vision 2030: Expanding our community’s tree canopy and enhancing green spaces.

When we asked residents what mattered most for the future of Killarney Glengarry, the message was clear – we want more trees. Everywhere. Trees are more than just beautiful, they cool our neighbourhoods, clean the air, and make people feel good. Increasing the tree canopy wasn’t just a nice-to-have in Vision 2030, it was the top community priority.
Right now, Calgary’s overall tree canopy coverage sits at 8.25%. The City of Calgary has set a bold goal to nearly double that coverage to 16%, and they need residents to help make it happen, starting right here in Killarney Glengarry.
Introducing the City’s Branching Out Program
If you’re interested in planting a tree on your property, the Branching Out program is a fantastic place to start. This City of Calgary initiative offers residents a free tree to plant on their own land as part of a city-wide effort to boost green coverage.
A wide variety of trees are available through this annual program, but quantities are limited—so registration is important. Trees are provided free of charge to participants, making it an easy and impactful way to support our community vision.
To help you choose the right tree, prepare your planting site, and keep your new tree healthy for years to come, the City has also put together helpful resources. You can explore those and watch for registration updates.
This is a chance to be part of something meaningful: a greener, healthier, more vibrant Killarney Glengarry for the next generation.

Update on Minto
As you may be aware, the City approved the Minto proposal on Viscount to move to the next stage. To educate the KG community, there was an update on the Minto project during an Open House, which was scheduled for the week of April 14.
The purpose of this session was for the KGCA to share an overview of the City’s position on the development, what was approved, and to provide residents with information on how to engage through appropriate civic channels. This was intended as an informative and constructive session and not as a forum for opposition or complaints to the CA about the City’s decision.
