Summer is in full swing, and I absolutely love seeing the neighbourhood in full bloom.
On July 16, we had our Virtual Beer Tasting. Thank you to Bitter Sisters for partnering with us on a Virtual Beer Tasting, and to our Board members who organized everything behind the scenes. What a great way to experience our very own Kingsland-brewed beer and meet your neighbours.
Welcome Ben Montgomery, our new Secretary, to the Board and to Kingsland.
Over the month of June, the Kingsland Community Association asked community residents to submit ideas for a new KCA logo. In total, 35 submissions were received! Of these submissions, the top five were chosen by the Board as the candidates for public voting. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on voting and the unveiling of our new logo! Thank you to everybody who submitted a logo and to our fabulous Communications Committee for all the heavy lifting that goes into this type of activity.
As of early July, we have 583 signatures on the petition to fence our dog park. The Board is working on next steps for this project and considering how to submit the list of signatures and formal petition to the City as a show of community support for the dog park. We’ll keep you posted as things progress.
A group of volunteers has also been working on activating the corner of Glenmore Trail and Elbow Drive. We have a few ideas on how to make it more user friendly and interesting, such as adding some colour to the bollards and inviting some artists to help us paint some murals. We will share more opportunities with the community once we have more details. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out.
Mark your calendars! We have our Community Clean-up Day on September 11. Community Cleanup events are meant to save residents a trip to the landfill for items that do not fit in their waste and recycling carts, or for residents who do not have cart service. This service is free of charge to all Calgarians and will be held at the Kingsland Community Hall, 505 78 Avenue SW, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Don’t forget, Broxburn Veggie Truck comes to the hall every Tuesday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and this time of year is when the harvest is bountiful.
The only thing I would add is that we also have the Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Queen truck at the hall on Tuesdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. It’s a real one stop shop!
As always, please reach out to us via email, social media, or phone, we love hearing from residents.
Enjoy your summer,
Amy Mireault
