Hello neighbours!
I would like to take a minute to introduce myself as the new KCA president. My name is Charlotte Pickel and I have been a resident of Kingsland for the past three years. I grew up in Southwestern Ontario but traded in the Great Lakes for the Rocky Mountains a little over ten years ago. I have worked in agriculture since I was quite young. From driving teams of horses at Heritage Park, to guiding horseback trips in the Rockies, to working in both dairy and beef cattle research, I would describe my resume as ‘unique’ to say the least.
In the past year and a half, I have had the opportunity to take a more active role in our community by organizing flower sales, food trucks, virtual beer tastings, and volunteering with the ice rinks and our community clean-up day. Through these events and others, I have been able to develop relationships with community members, the KCA board, a few of our local businesses, and those relationships are what encouraged me to take this position.
Before I wrap this up, there are a couple thank yous I would like to send. First off, to all of those who purchased flowers through our winter flower fundraiser and to the volunteers that helped make this fundraiser a possibility. It is wonderful to see so many people getting out to support our community.
I would also like to thank Amy Mireault, our outgoing KCA president, for all of the work she’s done over the last year. Amy brought a level of creativity and willingness to go forth and conquer that we will certainly miss. Her leadership encouraged collaboration and planning for the future, even when hands were tied due to pandemic restrictions. On a personal note, I want to thank Amy for helping me to get involved in the first place and being open to and supportive of all my crazy projects this year. I, along with the rest of the board, wish Amy and her family all the best!
That’s all from me for now. I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and cannot wait to get started with new projects in the New Year.
All the best,
Charlotte Pickel, KCA President
