Hi there neighbours,

Fall is here, winter is knocking on the door, our municipal election and AGM are behind us, and we have some changes on the Kingsland Community Association board.

On Thursday, October 23 we had our Annual General Meeting (AGM), where Terry Casey – Membership director retired from the board after many years of service and contributions, we will miss his great smile and sense of humour and great volunteering. Corey Fitzgerald our current co-chair of the Kingsland School Site subcommittee put himself forward to be our new Membership director and we wish him the best in his new role. Carmen Buckner Vice President will be taking over the helm as President of the board as I am retiring from the board, I know her energy and organizational skills will be put to great use as President. Teresa Bristow has come forward to take on the Vice President role; she and her husband moved to Kingsland in the past eighteen months, have volunteered with the ice rink maintenance, and attended multiple KCA events. We wish her great success and enjoyment on the board. Please check our website as we update director pictures and bios for backgrounds on our new members. Ben Ethier has retired from open director role and previously our Trico Liaison role – wishing him all the best.

A big thank you to current board members, retiring board members, and future board members, your time and work on the board is greatly appreciated.

We are looking for community members for our Social Committee to help plan and facilitate KCA social events for the year. Please reach out to [email protected] to join! Without this committee and our volunteers, it is challenging as a volunteer-based organization to have the people power to put on our events.

It has been an honour and a privilege to be your President these past two years. Working with the City and our subcommittee to get the school site confirmed for green space is a success I will always treasure. Attending meetings with developers and City officials and employees to convey our concerns on projects and planning bylaw changes was informative and impactful. Working with other community presidents to discuss shared issues impacting our communities was connection building and meaningful work. Meeting and talking with residents at family day, neighbour day, mini global fest, our flower fundraisers, board meeting, through emails and calls, has been rewarding. I have enjoyed my time on the board, working within the community with our Kingsland connectors group through the City of Calgary social work program, and being a proud Kingsland resident.

Wishing every resident of Kingsland all the best,

David Sanderson

KCA President
