Spring Fling Was a Success
The Spring Fling held on Saturday, April 15 was a successful, fun event. We had many silent auction items provided by local businesses and put together beautifully by Lucy Arellano, our Social Director. Ad Hoc band was great. They did not charge us, but they were a big reason the event was successful. Our own Julie Boyle was part of the band! Directors at Large, Brandon Hossack and Lucy made special cocktails for the occasion. Former Board Director Ken Hryciw was a bartender. The bar was a busy part of the event. Chuck Mohamed and Isaiah Dobni were part of the planning team, and 4th Street Pizza provided the food at a discount. There is a list of businesses elsewhere in this newsletter who contributed to the silent auction. We are still in the process of tabulating the net proceeds, but we donated $500 to the Canadian Red Cross for the Ukraine in lieu of paying the band.
Mission Possible 2023
Mission Possible 2023 will take place on Saturday, June 17. This is an outdoor event with food and entertainment. Of course, if it rains, we will be inside the hall. Either way, it is a fun event that celebrates our community. It started in 2013 because of the flood.
Mission Possible is our equivalent of Neighbour Day that started in 2014. We were basically the forerunner of this city-wide day. Would you like to help? Contact Lucy at [email protected].
Movie in the Park 2023

Pathway and River Cleanup
The Pathway and River Cleanup was held on Sunday, June 7 in Lindsay Park. This was a joint effort of Cliff Bungalow – Mission (led by Environment Director Robin Thompson), Erlton, and Rideau Roxboro. Afterwards, there was food and entertainment. Hats off to Robin!
Athlone Apartments Designated a Heritage Site
On December 20, City Council designated the Athlone Apartments as a municipal heritage site. It is an Art Moderne style building built in 1940 and located at 330 – 19 Avenue SW. This building is now a condo building. We congratulate the owners for taking this step. This building was caught in the new parking permit rules.
