May Civic Affairs in Oakridge

Due to COVID-19, the City has postponed all further Public and Council review of the new ‘Guidelines for Great Communities’ with its focus on longer term community plans and increased density implications. As the Oakridge Community Association, we officially supported this decision. We also continue to collaborate with other adjacent communities on a multi-community Local Area Plan (LAR) and other items related to Civic Affairs and City Planning. District 32 refers to Oakridge, Palliser, Bayview, Pump Hill (PBPCA), Braeside, Cedarbrae, and Woodbine and Woodlands (Woodcreek CA). The timing of Co-Op redevelopment, the Bike Skills Park and the Quinterra Legacy Park are all being affected by the current COVID-19 emergency. This update was written on March 31 and by early May, things will have changed, hopefully for the better.

Within Oakridge, we have made some minor progress with the City on snow and ice removal in local park areas but still need alignment on extra drainage and clarification on responsibility for clearing laneway entries/ exits and engineered pathways. This will impact 2020/2021 snow clearance and ice management. Enhanced pedestrian crosswalks is another topic that the OCA is involved with. Monitoring of the revised bus stops/routes and rider usage is also under review; however, our volunteer coordinating this has stepped down, so we are looking for someone to take this on and liaise with other representatives from District 32.

After discussions with the City, we have started to discuss a Strategic Plan for S Glenmore Park and adjacent Natural Areas to ensure there is no further piecemeal developments. We hope to have a brief update for the June Echo.

Stay sane and safe – physically apart – but socially together in these extraordinarily difficult times.
