We have had several successful ‘Work Bees’ to maintain the perennial garden, the vertical garden, and general maintenance of the OCG shed, compost bins, and communal plants around our perimeter.
We had Louis Riel School students plant and water the sunflowers in the Fibonacci Spiral. We had an Open Garden on July 7 during the OCA Stampede breakfast and our shaded picnic areas were well used for consuming breakfasts while watching the horse rides.
Our next activity with Youth Central is planned for Saturday, July 20 to build a floor for the gazebo and some benches, as well as planting more shrubs and perennials and edging our mulch pathways.
Our plans for 2024 – our fifth growing season are to ensure a focus on long-term sustainment. We have three individuals on our waitlist for next year. Join our Level One this year, learn about us, and volunteer which will give you early notice for renting a raised bed in 2025.
Later in the year, we plan to repeat some Halloween celebrations with pumpkin carving and dress up celebrations – but we need enthusiastic participants and volunteers.
We will continue to have some ‘Work Bee’ volunteer days where we will plant, water, and maintain the OCG area and have fun learning about garden experiences.
Come and volunteer and join the exciting garden group.
