Oakridge Sage Gatherings – Where
Caring and Wisdom Meet Community
We are now in the most wonderful
time of year, spring! With spring comes so many new beginnings. Brian Hawco
spoke to us about the best approaches to renovating and that is definitely a
spring subject. This was a wonderful topic for us as we move into warm weather
and many home projects. Our speakers are lined up for the rest of 2026, so there
will be many more opportunities for you to attend speaker’s events in the
coming months, please watch for them in this space of the ECHO, on the
bulletin board at the entrance to the building, or on the website via the
community bulletin board.
We really are fortunate to have so many
wonderful members who are willing to teach us and share their time and
experiences. As well, they are connected to others who are very generous with
their time and knowledge. Please join us for our presentation this month, April
22, the Parkinson’s Association will be sharing valuable information regarding
“an Introduction to Parkinsons – it’s Parkinsons 101”. There is so much new
information available, please be sure to join us.
We are always looking for speakers
and topics, if there is something you are interested in hearing or learning
more about, please reach out with your ideas to Bruce at [email protected]
Presentations

Centre, second floor.
We do suggest registering for these
events as seating is limited. Contact [email protected].
April 22, 2026: the Parkinson’s
association will be sharing valuable information regarding “an Introduction to Parkinson’s
– Parkinson’s Disease 101.”
May 27, 2026: Jill Sutherland will be
teaching us about food safety and other great kitchen tips. This topic will be
full of things that will ensure we are preparing our food safely, including tips,
tricks, and tools.
Please note: all speaker series
presentations are by a donation of your choice and mostly they are held on the
second floor of the Oakridge Community Centre. Please read the ECHO and
watch for posters on the bulletin board at the entrance for information.
Weekly Drop-In Chats
Our weekly drop-in chats are on Wednesdays
from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the main foyer. Everyone is welcome to join the group.
We often have shorter presentations with our coffee, friendly conversations,
and planning sessions for future events and we always welcome newcomers. If you
are interested in attending, meeting new people, making a presentation yourself,
or if you would like to be added to the weekly information email for things
happening for the following weeks, please email Bruce Sutherland at [email protected]
– he always adds an interesting piece of trivia or history to his emails!
Caring Committee News
We have a group within Sage
Gatherings whose purpose is to reach out and support those in our group in
need. Caring for one another is a key pillar of our Sage Gatherings community.
This committee spends many hours developing ideas to help people in the
community and are committed to working with our friends and neighbours to
achieve the goals of Sage Gatherings.
We are so fortunate to have a
commercial kitchen in the Oakridge Community Centre and to have volunteers who
are now preparing meals for those who are unable to cook due to an injury,
illness, or infirmity. This is a wonderful and supportive Oakridge venture.
Please go to the website and look for community cookhouse information.
You are invited to join us at our Wednesday
morning coffee gatherings and be a part of this wonderfully connected group. This
is where we share ideas, goals, neighbourhood issues, and generally support one
and other and the community at large.
Weekly Walks – Tuesdays, 10:00 am
We meet every Tuesday, walk
together, sometimes head for coffee, and always do a lot of catching up!
Oakridge area outdoor walks during
nice weather.
First Tuesdays of the month:
24 Street and 90 Avenue SW, Southeast Glenmore parking lot, (by the
water park) walk east to Heritage Park.
Second Tuesdays: 90 Avenue and Oakmount
Drive, Glenmore Southwest parking lot; walk west to Weasel-Head
Flats National Park.
Third Tuesdays: Oakridge Community Centre,
pathways and parks in the neighbourhood.
Fourth Tuesdays: south end of BEBO
grove, Fish Creek Park, different route each month.
As the weather changes so do our
walking plans. We set clear guidelines for the weather and as snow and ice
begin to accumulate, we will often change the plans above and walk at Chinook
Centre. Please check Bruce’s weekly email for updates. If you are not on the email
list, please send him an email to be added at [email protected].
