Oakridge’s Civic Affairs Update for October

We continue to look for new OCA board members who will focus on City planning activities and separately on local road safety as the current board members will be less involved than recently. Hopefully we managed to fill these at the OCA Annual General Meeting or shortly thereafter. We encourage Oakridge residents to actively participate as there are lots of changes planned in our local neighbourhood and City.

Local Oakridge Concerns

Road calming is now partially implemented at Palliser Dr and 29 St with relocation of the ‘pedestrian crossing’ signs expected shortly. Pedestrian crossing at 26 St has also been enhanced. As previously mentioned, other locations of concern to residents are assessed by the City as not warranting any upgrades. Please also use the City of Calgary 3-1-1 line or https://www.calgary.ca/311.html.

Thanks to residents who are considerate of their neighbours and drive safely, pick up after their dogs, and keep their back alleys tidy from overflowing bins and discarded rubbish and free of prohibited and noxious weeds. Please refer to https://www.alberta.ca/provincially-regulated-weeds.

Co-op Redevelopment

As evident to most residents and users, the Co-op construction is progressing well with most of the structural work complete, and they remain on track for a spring 2025 completion date. No further update available but see https://www.calgarycoop.com/locations/oakridge-2/ for more information.

RioCan Development at Glenmore Landing

Further to the deadline of July 22 on https://dmap.calgary.ca/?find=LOC2023-0130:

Several residents commented on the revised plans for the new Land Use. The City Development staff supported conditional approval at the Calgary Planning Commission meeting on September 5 at 1:00 pm. On September 10, we received a copy from the ‘Chinook Park, Kelvin Grove, and Eagle Ridge (CKE) Community Association’ changing their July 22 position from neutrality to now being in opposition due to the most recent information. This information can only be viewed at City Hall and cannot be copied.

We have a new request into RioCan that the TIA and related documents be made public but have still not heard back. https://www.calgary.ca/planning/projects/glenmore-landing.html.

A different perspective on the development but similar concerns with traffic is available at https://www.stopthetowers.ca/traffic-concerns.

District 32

Our next meeting (#26) with adjacent community associations will have occurred on Thursday, September 19 in the Boardroom at Woodcreek CA (1991 Woodview Drive SW). This meeting should have discussed many of the local planning issues. Derek Dallen is our new Oakridge representative.

Citywide Rezoning

Please refer to prior editions of the Oakridge Echo for sources of information and background. Citywide rezoning came into effect on August 6 ahead of any further administration analysis as directed by Council. Please see https://www.calgary.ca/planning/projects/rezoning-for-housing.html for the latest updates and information.
