Oh MY Oakridge – October Update

While the weather turns chilly outside and we approach a busy time of year, Oh MY Oakridge is looking forward to taking a break from grant writing! During September and early October, we submitted three major grants for the Oakridge Way Park Project. We now have to do the stressful work of waiting to see which of these grant applications are successful. As part of the granting process, we required designs for potential playground infrastructure to be created. Keep checking our Facebook page for more details on these designs and to let us know what you think! A finalized design is still many months away but your feedback in this process is instrumental to ensuring we get the best park space imaginable.

In late September, we hosted our first Volunteer Appreciation event to thank all the residents who have helped us get the word out about Oh MY Oakridge. Whether they helped with a fundraiser or by passing out doorhangers for one of our events, we appreciate the time and effort residents have put towards this initiative. We wouldn’t be nearly as successful without the support of these tireless volunteers.

We continue to raise funds for both the Oakridge Way Park Project and the Master Plan Project. Our current fundraiser, for fresh apples from Davisons Orchard, ends October 5. Last year, these apples were the talk of Oakridge after our supporters tried them. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to get yourself a box. The QR code below will take you right to the order form. If you missed the order deadline reach out to us as at [email protected]; we may have a few extra boxes available. Delivery of our apples is scheduled for October 18. We will hand out the apples at the Oakridge Community Association that evening.

Our fundraiser following the apple delivery, for premium poinsettias, holiday wreaths, and beautiful planters is coming in November. Every year we sell these plants the quality gets better and the compliments from our supporters grow louder. These plants make a beautiful gift for personal or corporate clients and all the profits go back into our community. The link to purchase these incredible plants will be in next month’s Echo and will be available on our Facebook page in early November.

As the year ends you might be looking to make a donation to one of our projects and get a tax receipt back for your generosity. We are able to accept donations for both projects directly through the Parks Foundation, a registered charity who issues tax receipts for all donations over $100. Scan the QR code below to be taken to their donation information page. Our projects are called the Oakridge Greenspaces Master Plan and the Oakridge Way Park in their drop-down list of projects you can support.

Don’t forget to check back next month to stay up to date about what is going on with these initiatives. If you can’t wait until next month to hear from us, we will be set up at the Oakridge Community Association on Friday, October 21 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Home Hunters Pumpkin Giveaway. We would love for you to stop by and say hi when you come by to get your pumpkin.
